Welcome to Tri-CED Community Recycling

Tri-City Economic Development Corporation, also known as Tri-CED Community Recycling, operates on 4.5 acres in Union City, California. Tri-CED is California’s largest non-profit recycling operation and was incorporated in January 1980. The primary mission of Tri-CED is to employ low-income youth and adults in the recycling industry and to share residual proceeds with other non-profit organizations and preserve the environment through recycling activities.

Tri-CED operates 18 residential route trucks per day in the City of Hayward and Union City.  The Buy Back Recycling Center operates five days a week and is a certified California Redemption Center.

Tri-CED is governed by a community board of directors made up of local people.  The corporation has initiated several community benefit initiatives including the Masonic Homes of Union City, Math Science Nucleus and Niles Historical Nursery project called “Habitat Restoration” and the creation of the “Veterans Memorial Park” in Union City. Tri-CED will also be a partner in the establishment of the Alameda County Deputy Sheriff’s Activities League (DSAL) project of a 5 acre farm to be located on the property of Masonic Homes along Mission Boulevard.

In Memoriam: Richard Valle

February 8, 2023
It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of our President/CEO, Richard Valle. There are no words that can adequately describe the tremendous loss and grief that fell upon the Tri-CED family. We are heartbroken and devastated at the loss of our leader, mentor, and friend. Richard was the embodiment of our organization’s mission to support and lift up at-promise youth, to promote recyclability and sustainability, and to support and engage our local communities. Richard’s compassion and commitment to his family, his staff, and his community were unparalleled.

Rest easy, Richard. We will carry on your work for the community.

Buy Back Recycle Center Hours

Tuesday – Saturday
9:00am-4:00pm
Closed Sundays & Mondays

Lack of funding from the State and lower material values have caused many redemption centers to close.  Due to the recent closure of surrounding recycling centers, we are one of the few remaining redemption centers in the area.

We apologize for the long line and wait.  Thank you for your patience. We are doing all we can to stay OPEN.
