What to Recycle

Almost every bottle and can has the chance for a new life. In California, most of them are also good for cash when you redeem them. If you have any container from the following list, you're set.

Beverages subject to California Refund Valle (CRV) -  English | Spanish

  • Carbonated Soft Drinks
  • Wine Coolers
  • Distilled Spirit Coolers
  • Beer
  • Carbonated and Mineral Water
  • Non-carbonated Water Sports Drinks
  • Coffee and Tea Drinks
  • Fruit Drinks
  • Fruit Juices packed in containers less than 46 oz.
  • Vegetable juice in containers 16 ounces or less.
  • Click here to see a more detailed list.

There's money in those bottles and cans.

You can get more than your favorite beverage from these containers. You can also get cash. Thanks to the California Refund Value (CRV), you can return your glass, plastic and aluminum containers for money.

How much can you get for a bottle or can? 5¢ for containers less than 24 ounces 10¢ for containers 24 ounces and larger.  Prices are determined by the California Department of Conservation, Division of Recycling and change on a yearly or bi-yearly basis.

As a matter of convenience and efficiency, most recycling centers pay by the pound if you bring in a large load, so be sure to have only CRV containers to get the highest possible refund. You also can request to be paid on a per-container basis if you bring in loads of fewer than 50 per material type you just have to ask the recycler to pay by count instead of by weight.

Have questions regarding CRV material? Call the California Department of Conservation toll-free at 1-800-RECYCLE.

How are we doing?

Our Buy-Back Recycling Center operates six (6) days a week Monday through Saturday and averages approximately 200 customers per day and approximately 4,000 customers per month. Our attention to customer service and our commitment to youth employment separates Tri-CED from many traditional recycling operations that make customers wait for long periods of time when bringing recyclables to a recycling center.

Please take some time to help us improve our service to you. Click here to complete a customer satisfaction survey on the service you received at our buy back recycling center. Your input is very important to us.  Thank You!

Expanding the Bottle Bill

Tri-CED Recycling, along with Californians Against Waste and the City of Union City, lead efforts in extending California's Bottle Bill to include wine and liquor bottles.  This will mean that customers will be able to bring in wine and liquor bottles for redemption through the Buy Back Recycling Center and keep those bottles out of the landfill.   Please click here to read more about this initiative.  Also, please help us by urging your city government to pass this resolution to include wine and liquor bottles.
